If you caught last week's email, you know understanding our clients' pain can help us offer better support.
But after identifying the pain and providing a solution, what happens?
This is where pleasure points come in. And I cannot talk about pleasure without mentioning Audre Lorde's seminal essay "The Uses of the Erotic: The Erotic as Power" (listen to her reading).
Among many points, she discusses the erotic beyond sex as the power to feel joy deeply.
Which brings me to copywriting from this lens of the erotic, of pleasure . . .
Copy from a place of pleasure shows us the benefits of an offer beyond the offer. It is through this lens that we create offers that enrich our clients' lives.
From this place, we find "the sharing of joy [that] forms a bridge between the sharers".
The question then becomes, what joy do I share with my clients along our journey towards X pursuit?
Quick share: I'm the worst at sharing life on social media, but if I did, people might see me dancing in the middle of the day or walking barefoot on the lawn (something about feeling the ground is just 😍).
This is the "open and fearless underlining of my capacity for joy". It is the capacity to enjoy the smallest of things like eating fresh watermelon on a hot summer day or walking in the rain.
I operate from this place, from the idea that in writing a client's copy, they have the space and time to find their own pleasures whether it's cuddling up with a good book, enjoying a sunset, or spending time with their loved ones.
So the question for you is, how does your offer enrich your clients' lives beyond the more immediate benefits? How are you supporting their journey of transforming pain into pleasure?
In connecting deeply with pleasure, we unsubscribe from patriarchal, capitalist notions of work. We distance ourselves from "a system [that] reduces work to a travesty of necessities . . . "
Whether it's a product or a service, this idea of pleasure will help you write copy that connects deeper, so you stay top of mind while also moving us towards liberation to live life in ways that bring us and our clients deep joy and fulfillment.

Ahoy matey! I wouldn't be surprised if you've had a similar experience to the following Reader. You find a business or entrepreneur you like so . . . 👣You head over to a social profile and see a few content pieces 👣You decide to check out their website 👣You land on the “home” page that reads like a sales page (btw, it’s great to have an offer in your home page but don’t forget to tell people who you are and what they gain from being there) 👣You go to the offers, click on the button to find...
When I say I got into an argument with ChatGPT, I mean literally Reader. Obviously, it wasn’t an all out shouting match as you can imagine, but it was an argument of sorts. I've been experimenting with ChatGPT (and other AI writing tools) since last year, and a few months back, I was bored and got curious and wondered . . . “How would ChatGPT respond to an unrealistic question?” So I jumped on the computer and asked: The conversation went on as I asked questions like "what if I really want it...
As I was rewatching a masterclasses from Steph Tuss, I started to think of all I've learned about persuasive writing over the years. And,Reader, I came to the conclusion that all sales come to these three questions: What do you want? What's in the way of you attaining that? What needs to change for you to attain it? All other questions are either follow-ups to clarify or to expand on these questions. Unsurprisingly, these are the same questions we would ask ourselves if we wanted to make a...
